Bookman Trilogy Reissues

THE BOOKMAN TRILOGY REISSUES FROM ANGRY ROBOT!

Lavie Tidhar‘s The Bookman Trilogy, which comprises of The Bookman, Camera Obscura and The Great Game gets a nice summer reissue this year!

The lovely folk at Angry Robot were nice enough to ask me to work on the designs. And hey, when there’s Lizard Kings, swashbuckling pirates, secret government agencies and airships involved? I really don’t need to be asked twice.

Over at the wonderful Tor.com I share the design process and explain how I fought the impulse to overload the covers with to much cool stuff, battled with tripods, struggled with Steampunk and made some very tricky decision about cogs.

There’s a problem illustrating The Bookman trilogy. The problem with illustrating the The Bookman trilogy? Well, there’s actually way too much good stuff in there. Space probes, giant lizards, secret government agencies, tripods and airships, all set in a crazy, alternate Victorian Britain. That’s artistic catnip for me and it was really difficult not to go on a wild artistic binge. But the brief was “minimal, cool an’ classy,” so, despite the vast amount of fun stuff to work with, keeping the pixels to a minimum was in order. And, erm… probably for the best before everything ended up with like thousand of zeppelins on it!

FOX SPIRIT BFS WINNERS!

BRITISH FANTASY SOCIETY BEST SMALL PRESS 2015

Fox-Spirit-British Fantasy Awards

Super pleased that Fox Spirit totally nailed it and came away from the British Fantasy Society Awards with the ‘Best Small Press’ trophy. Huge hugs all round for a publishers that is only three years old and had also shortlisted for ‘Best Short Story’ with Gaie Sebold’s tale in Wicked Women AND ‘Best Fantasy Novel’ for the excellent Breed by K.T. Davies.

I’m very happy to have created the ‘Aunty Fox’ logo, as a small contribution to the big team effort!

Super pleased to find I’ve been nominated. A very nice thing to wake up to on Tuesday morning. WOW. Really smart to be nominated amongst such good company including partners in crime Lavie Tidhar and Adele Wearing at Fox Spirit. Nice left of field list this year.

The winners will be announced at the awards ceremony on Sunday, 25 October 2015, at FantasyCon 2015 in Nottingham. You can see the full list of nominations right here over at the British Fantasy Society. Big thanks everybody!
