Fox Pockets: A Tale Of Flash Fiction And Paw Prints…

[blockquote blockquote_style=”overlayed” align=”none” text_align=”center” cite=”- Fox Spirit -“]

Fox Pockets! Small but perfectly formed collections of stories by a den full of talented writers, put together by Fox Spirit books for your enjoyment.

The stories are flash fiction, giving the reader bite sized introductions to Fox Spirit and the writers we love to work with. All designed to fit perfectly into the pocket so you can take a little fox with you everywhere you go.

Stories in Fox Pockets will wander unfettered between genres, mixing horror, fantasy, science fiction and crime.

Cover art is by the talented and fabulous Sarah Anne Langton who is working to create an image for the collection as well as giving each book its own identity.

Well, that’s very kind of Aunty Fox to say so but ten books? TEN BOOKS? That’s a lotta pixels. Exciting an’ scary… in equal measure. And when so many authors are going to be spending so much time scribbling away for these anthologies? I feel the least I can do is try and give them a snappy package for their work to be showcased in.

New logo design for Hodder & Stoughton publishers Hodderscape books. Simple, stylized dodo icon in blue and black. And cute.

Hodderscape & Designing A Dodo…

Hodder. Hodderscape. And Designing A Dodo…

Sometime you’re lucky enough to be offer nice jobs. Jobs where you just can’t wait to get started because the idea is so much fun. And when the brief says ‘We need a dodo.’ You can totally count me in.It turns out that the lovely folk at Hodder & Stoughton have exciting, new plans for Hodderscape – their online community for all things Science Fiction, fantasy and horror. They’d like a new logo. A dodo. And when their list consists of author such as Stephen King, Benjamin Percy, Laini Taylor, Jasper Fforde and Daniel Polansky? I thinking I had better come up with a good dodo. A pretty damned good dodo. Apparently Jasper Fforde is naming said dodo. Erm… so no pressure there then.

Okay. Time to hit the pencils.

The Kitschies, presented by Kraken Rum, reward the year’s most progressive, intelligent and entertaining works that contain elements of the speculative or fantastic.

Well, who wouldn’t want to design a poster for that, right? Especially as it means I get to draw tentacles. Heh. Kraken Rum have just lovely graphics for their tasty tipple. Really nice stuff. But rather than simply copy their illustrations I wanted a tiny monster all of my own.

And – when it’s for the only awards ceremony where you actually win a tentacle – I feel you should clearly make an effort!
